Second and third year Bachelor of Science students

The basic requirement of a major is the completion of subjects at 300-level totalling 50 points. The requirements for a major in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in 2009 are:

For students who have never completed Biochemistry and Molecular Biology subjects at 300-level:

PLUS one of:

For students who have completed Biochemistry and Molecular Biology subjects at 300-level during or before 2008:

The pre-2009 requirement of one compulsory 300-level practical subject for a major in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology still stands. It can be either of the pre-2009 subjects Gene Technology and Protein Expression or Protein Biochemistry and Proteomics, OR the 2009 subject Advanced Techniques in Molecular Science. The remainder of the 50 points can be made up of any combination of pre-2009 subjects and 2009 subjects.

NOTE:

BSc Honours students

The one-year departmental BSc Honours course involves:

Entry is by merit, usually after a BSc degree.

The Honours course is open to students with a major in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and a 300-level faculty score above 65. There may be exceptions to this entry requirement.

Postgraduate students

The department offers a stimulating and friendly research environment for PhD students. About 50 students participate in the PhD program, which offers projects in structural biochemistry and molecular and cellular biology.
