Information for intending graduate students
Overview
Graduate students working within the department normally have one supervisor who has key roles in selecting the research project and advising as the work progresses.
For students doing research at locations outside the department, supervision is primarily the responsibility of the external supervisor, although contact with the department is maintained via a nominated internal supervisor. The progress of individual students is closely monitored by a mentor committee which provides broad departmental support for graduate students and extends the range of expertise available to them.
Students are required to present their work at various group and departmental seminar opportunities.
The department sponsors an annual graduate student retreat held at a nearby resort and also provides support for PhD students to attend at least one international scientific meeting during their candidature.
