Research at the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology

The department places high importance on research and research training.

Research priorities are those which apply:

  • biochemistry;
  • gene technology;
  • proteomics; and
  • macromolecular imaging
to biomedical science.

Research strengths of the department are in the areas of:
  • molecular cell biology;
  • structural biology;
  • protein biochemistry;
  • molecular immunology;
  • imaging
  • molecular genetics; and
  • cell biology of organisms, including yeast, protozoans and mouse, as model organisms.
Departmental research staff members are well-supported in their efforts by access to advanced equipment and a strong infrastructure.

Most of the department's research is undertaken in laboratories located at the Bio21 Institute.
