Research at the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology
The department places high importance on research and research training.
Research priorities are those which apply:
- biochemistry;
- gene technology;
- proteomics; and
- macromolecular imaging
to biomedical science.
Research strengths of the department are in the areas of:
- molecular cell biology;
- structural biology;
- protein biochemistry;
- molecular immunology;
- imaging
- molecular genetics; and
- cell biology of organisms, including yeast, protozoans and mouse, as model organisms.
Departmental research staff members are well-supported in their efforts by access to advanced
equipment and a strong infrastructure.
Most of the department's research is undertaken in laboratories
located at the Bio21
Institute.
