Centrifuge Rules
As of April 2011, there are new rules governing the access and usage of all departmentally owned centrifuges and rotors. These rules apply to those within the department and those external.
What are the new rules?
1. All users must be authorized by a trainer for each centrifuge and each rotor to use it unsupervised.
2. Only trainers can authorize users
- Trainers can only authorize users for the centrifuge the trainer is responsible for, and rotors that belong with the centrifuge
- Users are authorized on a centrifuge-by-centrifuge basis and rotor-by rotor basis
3. Unauthorized users must be supervised by an authorized user
- this should be logged in the booking calendar
4. External users, Honours students, 1st year Masters by research and unconfirmed PhD students cannot be authorized
